First Official Day of RTWH!

Road to the White House: Day 2
Monday, February 3, 2020
Merrimack/Manchester, NH

Whew, it's the end of day 2 and it's time to reflect on the day and report back to you all what we did today!

After getting a full night of sleep, we woke up bright and early to be on the vans by 8:30 to be at our internship placements. Jazzy and I made our way to Amy Klobuchar's state headquarters where we quickly were given a very important tasks: putting stamps on Commitment to Vote (CTV) cards! On these cards, Amy supporters commit themselves to vote for her on primary day and write some of the reasons they're committing to her. We got to read some of these as we were stamping, reading them out loud to each other, and some really stood out to us. One of them said something that really stood out to me:

"My daughters are the future and she is fighting for them!"

Isn't that the reason we care about this stuff in the first place? We want to make our world a better place for the future generations. That's what makes this election so important.

After putting stamps on all the CTVs, we took a nice walk to the post office (and got a vanilla latte next door), headed back to the office, and helped prepare for all of the event's Amy has this week. She has three of them tomorrow! This meant that we packed three different boxes with all the necessary supplies: paperwork, literature, stickers and buttons, placards, Amy's favorite pens, and even more! It was fun knowing that we were setting up Amy and her campaign for success for the rest of the week.

Clipboards, door hangers, literature, oh my!

On our walk, we attempted to eat at a place called the Bookery which is known for "lesser" known candidates such as Tulsi grabbing a bite to eat! We immediately could tell they were known for being involved politically by the window decorations...

After dropping off more CTVs at the post office and grabbing a quick lunch, we headed back to the office to begin making phone calls. This was an awesome chance to speak to voters, hear what some of their key issues were in this election (mostly electability and beating Trump) and encourage them to consider voting for Amy. I really enjoyed making these phone calls, and it serves as a reminder to be kind to those who work hard in all kinds of campaigns and spend their time texting and calling voters. It's especially nice when those we speak to are nice to you!

All-in-all, it was a really fun first day. Everyone in Amy's office were really kind and appreciative of our help. It was a rewarding feeling at the end of the day knowing we helped contribute, even a little, to a massive presidential campaign for an amazing woman.

We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow, that includes touring the State House AND staffing a Get Out the Vote event with Amy! Jazzy has been recruited as the campaign's hype woman, and I'll probably end up being her hype woman, so it's time for us to get some sleep...

See you bright and early tomorrow! Stay warm!
